Press-On Nail Guide: From Application to Removal

A complete guide to press-on nails, from applying to removing. Take your time — every step is there for a reason.

🌱 Prep

Prep is what decides how long your press-ons last. Good prep helps the nails stay firmly in place. Five minutes here makes everything after it worth it.

Step 1 | Push back your cuticles

Use the cuticle pusher from your kit to gently push your cuticles back toward the base of the nail. You don't need to go deep — just enough to expose the nail bed.

Step 2 | Lightly buff the surface

Use the file from your kit to buff the surface of each nail a few times so it's slightly rough. This is what helps the press-on grip. Keep it light — no need to press hard.

Step 3 | Wipe the nails

Wipe every nail thoroughly with the alcohol pad from your kit to remove natural oils, then let them air-dry.

⚠️ Once you've wiped them, try not to touch the nail surface again. Oils from your fingers will weaken the adhesion.

🌸 Applying your press-ons

We recommend applying with adhesive tabs. They're ideal for short-term wear of 1–3 days, come off with warm water, and let you reuse each set 10 times or more.

Step 1 | Choose the right tab

After prep, pick the adhesive tab closest in size to your own nail. Peel it from the sheet, place it flat on your nail and press firmly so it's in full contact with the nail bed.

Step 2 | Apply the press-on

Peel off the protective film (sticky side up) → line the press-on up with the base of your nail near the cuticle and lower it at a 45° angle → press from base to tip and hold for 10–15 seconds so it sits flush. Repeat for each finger.

⚠️ Avoid water for the first 2–3 hours after applying, so the adhesive can fully set.

📏 Measuring your nail size

Before ordering, measure your nails with either method below and compare with the size chart on the product page.

Method 1 | Soft measuring tape

  1. Find the widest point of your nail bed.
  2. Lay the tape along the natural curve of the nail and measure from one side to the other.
  3. Note the size for each nail.

Method 2 | Tape + ruler

  1. Stick clear tape (or washi tape) across the widest part of your nail.
  2. Mark both edges of the nail on the tape with a pen.
  3. Peel off the tape and measure the distance between the marks with a ruler.
  4. Note the size for each nail.

📐 Match your numbers to the size chart on the product page. If your fingers vary a lot, go by the wider side. If you're between two sizes, choose the larger one and file the edges slightly. Full details: how to choose your size.

💧 Removing your press-ons

Removing them properly means you can keep wearing them. Fifteen patient minutes is far better than damaging your nails by pulling.

Step 1 | Soak in warm water

Fill a small bowl with warm water and a little body wash, dish soap or olive oil. Soak for 10–15 minutes, or until the press-ons start to separate from your nails naturally.

Step 2 | Gently lift

Use the cuticle pusher to ease the press-on up from the edge. If you feel you need to force it, soak for another 5 minutes so the adhesive softens further.

⚠️ Never rip them off. It damages both your natural nail and the press-on, and they won't stick as well next time.

Step 3 | Remove leftover adhesive

Gently roll the adhesive off the back of each press-on with the cuticle pusher.

Step 4 | Store them

Once dry, put them back in the original case, ready for next time.

💚 Care and reuse

With good care, each Often Light set can be worn 10 times or more.

Tip 1 | Remove safely

Lift gently from the edge with the cuticle pusher. If it takes force, soak longer — never pull. Forcing them off hurts both your nail and the press-on.

Tip 2 | Clean off the adhesive

Roll the adhesive off with the cuticle pusher. If you've used liquid nail glue (we recommend adhesive tabs and avoiding glue where possible), an electric nail file can remove the extra residue. Take extra care with clear-base designs.

Tip 3 | Store properly

Make sure each press-on is dry and free of adhesive before putting it back in the case. Storing them damp or sticky will affect how well they grip next time.
